Car already in the UK

Already here? We'll take it from the port.

Maybe you shipped it yourself, or a friend sorted the sailing. However it got here, the car still needs customs, a conversion, a test and UK plates. That's our bit.

What's left to do

Four jobs, one team

Customs clearance

We're fully authorised HMRC CDS customs agents with our own team. We lodge the entry, work out duty and VAT (or claim your Transfer of Residence relief), make the NOVA notification HMRC needs before the DVLA will register the car, and release it.

Port to our site

Open or enclosed transport from the port to Castle Donington, arranged as soon as the car is released. It saves you storage days at the terminal.

Conversion

Hong Kong cars are right-hand drive already, and their headlights are no longer scrutinised. Usually it's just the speedo to mph and the rear fog light.

Test and registration

IVA on our own lane if it's under ten, an MOT if it's older. Then registration through our dealer-level DVLA account, usually in about 10 working days.

Questions

About cars already here

The car is at the port. Can you collect it?

Yes. We can clear it through customs as your agent and bring it to our site on our own transport. The sooner we know, the less port storage you pay.

It has been cleared already. Can you just register it?

Yes. Send us what you have from customs and we will take it from there: conversion, the IVA test or MOT, and DVLA registration. One thing to check: HMRC has to be told about the car through NOVA within 14 days of it arriving, and the DVLA cannot register it until that is done. If nobody has done it yet, tell us straight away.

It used to be registered in the UK. Does that change anything?

It can. A car that is coming back to the UK may be treated differently at customs and at the DVLA. The quote form asks, so we can price it properly.

Tell us where it is.

Pick 'Already in the UK' on the quote form. We'll price only what's left to do.
